Tips to find a roommate

How do you find a good roommate? Well, the most important thing is to find a roommate with good chemistry – one you can trust and one you get along with, so the experience of being roommates is a pleasant one. Often, people who are roommates become good friends! However, there are some important rules you should consider when searching for a roommate:

  1. Be honest to yourself: don’t get a roommate unless you have really thought about the consequences. Once you have signed the contract with your roommate, you can’t just throw the roommate out.
  2. Be honest to your prospective roommate: make sure your are very honest and specific in explaining the house-rules to your prospective roommate. Who pays for what and when, is loud music and partying allowed, who does the dishes, etc. Make sure you and your roommate have agreed on these basic house-rules before you sign anything.
  3. Make sure to make a written contract: get everything in writing (rent, payment date, utility bills, house rules, etc.).
  4. Be open-minded: have faith in other peoples judgment and be open-minded when you search for a roommate – and when you live with your new roommate too! Accept other peoples differences and you will get along much easier with other people.
  5. Trust your instinct and judgment: Only you can judge whether or not you have good chemistry with your new roommate. To avoid signing a long-term rental contract that you can’t get out of again, you can for instance agree to an initial trial where you and your new roommate share the apartment on a trial basis – for instance 2-3 months. Afterwards, you can cancel the trial contract and go your separate ways. However, please remember that most roommates are honest and kind people! :-)

Understanding Accommodation Based Aspects While You Study Abroad

United States happens to get the highest number of international students (from all over the world). While setting sights on higher education abroad, a majority of the time spent by students (and their guardians) on planning goes on the aspects of accommodation.

The perfect apartment will not only save you on your accommodation related budget, but on other financial aspects like transportation, dining and other miscellaneous aspects

It is often seen that due to the emergence of educational campuses, many accommodation options materialize near these campuses. They even advertise this way, with phrases like: walking distance from the college, or just next or opposite to the campus. Even with so many options, like direct renting, subletting and student swap rooms available, it can still be worrisome at times to zero in on the most appropriate type of Student Accommodation.

Many students will go to any lengths to save money while they study abroad. They may even opt for accommodation which is at the other end of the city (with respect to the college in question). What they fail to realize is that this way they end up paying for traveling from their comfort zones to their college campuses. Students who stay on campus have the luxury to exclude transportation based costs though.

The best way for students who study abroad is to understand the city first, and then they should know what they are exactly looking for when it comes to accommodation. “If you know what you want, you have a better chance of getting it.” Write down your requirements, and sort out the options available, according to them.

Even if you have found the right sublet housing option while studying abroad, always keep some more (at least a couple) options ready, just in case, things don’t materialize the way you wanted them to.

What Type of Student Accommodations Need to be Chosen?

For people who are to go abroad to pursue education, accommodation is one of the most worrisome issues after the financial aspects. At times, more than the actual students, the parents fret more. When accommodation within the country itself can be difficult at times, then you can understand how irritating accommodation can be, when someone chooses a different country to pursue his or her education.

These are the days of accommodation services offered by many reputed establishments, so it becomes very easy to connect to the best possible accommodation. This story is directed best when the location is a big metropolitan city, but what about other cities?

As you might be aware that there are very few cities which can boast of the tagline – we have educational institutions in the heart of the city. There are many popular campuses which are often away from the hustle and bustle and it is here that many leading student accommodation services fail.

international student accommodations   cover most of the popular cities and states, but not all. You have 2 options now, either go with the local accommodation providers which arent reputed much, or stick to the big players who don’t have many options in some cities.

Local student accommodations will have advantages like more options, even better options as they are limited to a single city, while big players in international student accommodations are known for better, more trustworthy options.

The answer is to choose what is best suitable at that moment. Also, it is advised to make your plans well in advance, so that you don’t get in a situation where you have landed somewhere and aren’t sure of the next step.

Lastly, it is advised to go for Student Accommodation services by entities which offer numerous options available in the sections – renting, subletting and student housing.
